Tamuna Sirbiladze

"good enough" is never good enough
October 13—November 8, 2015

James Fuentes is pleased to present a solo exhibition by Tamuna Sirbiladze. Sirbiladze's paintings explore the mediated gap between expression and the subconcious. Made primarily with oilsticks and pastels on unprimed canvas, the works are at once performative, gestural, and serene. Her paintings fluctuated from representation to abstraction and possess enigmatic titles such as "like it hot", "salome" and "they made it because of the time". Through her deliberate obfuscation between idea and thing, Sirbiladze presents abstract portraits of the outside world.

Tamuna Sirbiladze (born in 1971, Tbilisi, Georgia, lives and works in Vienna) Studied in Tbilissi State Academy from 1989 -- 1994, the Academy of fine Arts, Vienna, 1997 -- 2003, and the Slade School of Arts, London, 2003. Previous solo shows include exhibitions at Half Gallery of New York (2015) and Jonathan Viner of London (2008).
